Nigel Keen is leaving his role as property director at Waitrose after 18 years with the John Lewis Partnership.

Keen, who will step down in January next year,  joined the company in 1999 with the brief to modernise its approach to real estate while developing and implementing a strategy for growth for Waitrose.

He has been a member of the Waitrose management board for 15 years and has led the growth of the supermarket's estate from 146 branches when he joined to 352 today.

On the John Lewis side of the partnership Nigel led the four-year project to rebuild the Peter Jones store and was responsible for opening 10 department stores and 14 John Lewis At Home stores.

Waitrose said Keen plans to focus on growing his portfolio of consultancy and non-executive appointments; in November 2016, he was appointed non-executive director at Bovis Homes.

Rob Collins, managing director, Waitrose, said: "Nigel has made an immense contribution and a positive, lasting difference to our business. I wish him every success and happiness in the next phase of his career."
