Hilton has reached a deal to open its first Hampton by Hilton hotel in Manchester.

The 221-room hotel, in Manchester's Northern Quarter, will open in 2020 under a franchise agreement with Create Developments (Manchester) Limited.

Located on the corner of Rochdale Road and Sharp Street – the new build hotel will be close  to bars, restaurants and cultural attractions including the 21,000 seat capacity Manchester Arena, Printworks leisure destination and Arndale shopping centre.

Hilton has around 40 Hampton by Hilton hotels trading or under development in the UK. The Manchester site is the second development to legally complete in the last 12 months, with the company currently on site at Blackpool.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said, “The regeneration of Manchester’s Northern Quarter has brought new investment into the city, resulting in a vibrant, creative neighborhood – the ideal location in which to introduce our first Hampton by Hilton hotel. With business in Manchester thriving, and more and more tourists visiting the city’s cultural and sporting attractions, demand for our brands is rising. We’re pleased to be once again working with Create Developments, this time in conjunction with IP Investment Management of Hong Kong and Maven Capital Partners UK LLP, to deliver another standout hotel to the UK market.”

“Having worked on this development for the past two years, it’s fantastic to reach this milestone and allow works to commence on site, by our sister company Create Construction Ltd, within the next quarter,” said Paul Mathison, Managing Director, Create Developments (Manchester) Limited.

“The success of this development has been underpinned by the collaborative approach adopted by all of the stakeholders, including Maven Capital Partners, IP Investment Management, CBRE Global Investments and Manchester City Council, when concluding the legal and funding platform.

“This is our second Hampton by Hilton development to legally complete within the last 12 months, with Hampton by Hilton Blackpool currently on site and due to open in May 2018”, he continued.

Manchester has proven extremely attractive as a destination for leisure travel in recent years, with robust domestic tourism and international visitor arrivals on the rise. By 2020 Greater Manchester aims to increase the value of tourism to the city’s economy to £8.8bn annually, and the new hotel will cater to the rising number of overnight visitors.

Today’s news follows the recent opening of Hilton Garden Inn Emirates Old Trafford, and will bring the total number of hotels operating under Hilton brands in the city to four. Hampton by Hilton is one of the UK’s fastest growing hotel brands, and, in 2017, the brand has added new hotels in eight UK cities, including Edinburgh, London, Bristol and Aberdeen.
