Barings Real Estate Advisers has appointed Stephan Weber to the role of head of project management Europe, where he will oversee major European developments.

Weber brings nearly 30 years of experience in the real estate sector, most recently as director of special projects for King Abdullah’s Economic City, Saudi Arabia, where he was responsible for the development and activation of the strategic projects of the chief executive’s office since 2012.

Prior to this he spent two years with I.C.M.E Munich, in both Germany and Abu Dhabi, and has also worked for John Buck International in Abu Dhabi. Stephan’s European experience includes ten years at Sony where he was general manager for Real Estate Europe and based in Berlin, prior to which he was at Henschel and Partner GmbH and Bilfinger and Berger.

In his role at Barings, Weber will be responsible for the project management of Barings Real Estate Advisers development projects and major asset management initiatives across Europe. One of Weber’s key responsibilities will be overseeing the development of Barings’ first speculative development in continental Europe, a 17,141 sq m Grade A office at Budapester Strasse, Berlin.

This will include cost planning and analysis, the preparation of project schedules alongside key stakeholders, the ongoing monitoring of schedules, costs and quality and ensuring safety measures are adhered to throughout development. Weber will also be responsible for the development of a follow-up management strategy for developed assets.

Charles Weeks, head of real estate Europe at Barings Real Estate Advisers said: “The acquisition of Budapester Strasse, a development project in continental Europe, reflects our confidence in the Berlin office market and our extensive platform in Germany. With Stephan’s broad ranging expertise and experience in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, we look forward to unlocking the potential of transitional as well as development projects across European markets.”

Weber added: “This is an exciting time to join Barings, and I look forward to working with the real estate team to help deliver key projects and realise the value in the firm’s development and transitional portfolio.”
