WiredScore, the certification firm that rates the connectivity of office buildings, has launched in Germany today.

The launch in Berlin follows its expansion into Paris in March and Dublin in July earlier this year comes after industry demand for more transparency on digital connectivity.

A number of landlords and developers have already committed to the scheme, including LaSalle, Tishman Speyer, Brookfield, Hines, TLG IMMOBILIEN and Rockspring Property Investment Manager. Allianz Real Estate is also a WiredScore customer in Germany.

Occupied buildings in the certification process include the tower at Potsdamer Platz 11, Kapweg 3-5, Ritterstraße 12-14, and the Rosenkontor on Rosenstraße. Developments and redevelopments committed to Wired Certification can be found in the city’s expanding technology hub, such as the Zoom building currently under construction at Bahnhof Zoo, and in the city centre as the historic Pressehaus on Alexanderplatz is currently under refurbishment and will soon be Wired Certified.

WiredScore’s president and EMEA managing director William Newton said: “We are delighted to begin operations in Germany, making Berlin one of the 80 cities in the world where Wired Certification is available. By providing transparency to buildings’ infrastructure, landlords and developers are able to better understand and market their buildings’ great digital connectivity features, and allow tenants to find an office which meets their tech needs.”

“We all know that connectivity is the lifeblood of modern businesses, but it’s great to learn from our research just how valuable it is to decision makers in Germany. According to our research where we surveyed German executives, 89% agreed that internet connectivity has become an even more important selection criterion than the cost of rent.”

“Berlin is fast becoming Europe’s latest tech hub, but our research has indicated that 46% of employees suffer from poor connectivity, resulting in lower productivity and a diminished ability to master peaks in workload. Wired Certification addresses this connectivity divide, enabling landlords to offer their tenants a trusted benchmark used globally to measure how well connected a building is.”

Michael Müller, the acting Mayor of Berlin, believes the city will benefit from greater transparency into the digital infrastructure of its commercial real estate, and praised WiredScore for enabling businesses to better identify premises that will help them succeed in the digital economy.

"As a growing, dynamic city, we rely on smart digital products and services", said Müller. "This applies to the real estate sector in particular. Almost 60,000 new jobs were created in the last year alone, many of them in the digital economy. For these businesses especially, a high level of connectivity will play a central role in their choice of location."

Global landmarks Wired Certified include the Empire State Building in New York, The Shard in London, Duo Towers in Paris, and several of Dublin’s exciting new developments.
