Keith Exford CBE has been appointed as a consultant for Affordable Housing and Housing Associations at CBRE.

Exford is joining CBRE from Clarion Housing Group, Britain’s largest affordable housing provider, where he was chief executive.

Exford led Affinity Sutton into its merger with Circle Housing in 2016 to create Clarion Housing Group, which is expected to become a top six national housebuilder, developing 50,000 homes across all tenures over the next decade. Prior to that, Exford held chief executive positions at both Broomleigh and Wandle Housing Associations.

Exford’s appointment strengthens CBRE’s 140-strong residential division which already works with some of the world’s most established developers and Housing Associations.

CBRE is advising on Queen’s Wharf, a joint venture between Mount Anvil and A2 Dominion, as well as Peabody’s Thamesmead development. Housing Associations own some 1.2m homes across the UK.

In his role, Exford will be working closely with CBRE’s Planning, Development, Residential, Capital Advisors and Valuations businesses to develop a full-service, market-leading Housing Association advisory business. Exford will be responsible for developing and leading the strategy, growing the team and building on and strengthening CBRE’s client relationships within the sector.

Stephen Hubbard, Chairman of CBRE UK, said: “We are delighted that Keith will be bringing his wealth of experience in the affordable housing sector to CBRE. The UK’s largest Housing Associations have become genuine rivals to the UK’s most dominant housebuilders and developers in terms of land acquisitions and volume of delivery. This provides an exciting opportunity for our advisory business and Keith will be an invaluable asset as we look to grow in this sector, enhancing our capability to better serve our clients.”
