IM Properties has been given the go ahead for a £225m employment park in the East Midlands - Hinckley Park - on which parcel delivery firm DPD will occupy Europe's largest automated parcel hub.

Located at J1 of the M69, the 82 acre employment park, with 39 acres dedicated to the £150m super-hub for DPD - was granted permission by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.

Richard Lawrence, development director of IMP, which is one of the largest privately owned property companies in the UK, said the park could ultimately generate some 2,400 jobs, across the manufacturing, light industrial and logistics sectors.

DPD's 276,454 sq ft hub - over 500 metres long - will be capable of handling 71,000 parcels an hour and create 750 jobs.

IMP intend to start infrastructure work in the Spring which will then provide a development plateau to enable the start of building construction for the DPD hub later in the year.

The construction process will create the equivalent of 280 full-time construction jobs during each year of the build programme, and the hub should be operational in Q4 2020.

Lawrence aid IMP would look to simultaneously install the infrastructure into the remaining 43 acres, therefore preparing the land ready to accommodate occupiers as soon as they are identified. The remaining site is capable of accommodating over 900,000 sq ft and has already generated substantial market interest.

"As a significant investor in the Midlands, we are delighted to be bringing this latest scheme forward. It is one of a number of employment sites we are committed to and hope to deliver as part of our long term development plan.

"This employment park underlines our ability to fund major developments, and also to think strategically for the long-term.”

In a report given to councilors, planning officers calculated that Hinckley Park will contribute around £20m to the area's economy during the construction phase, rising to around £47m a year when fully developed.
