Westminster leader Davis 'steps aside' as hospitality inquiry is held

Westminster Councillor has Robert Davis has stepped aside from his role as the Conservative Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council and lead on major development projects while an independent investigation of his conduct is held.

Councillor Davis remains a Councillor and a Conservative candidate for Lancaster Gate ward at the May 3rd elections.

It emerged in February that since the start of 2015 Davis has received hospitality related to his role as a City Councillor from developers, business and other interests 514 times.

Labour Group Leader Councillor Adam Hug said: “While we welcome this step forward, more needs to be done. As Councillor Davis remains a candidate for Lancaster Gate ward it is clear that, on the basis of the information in the public domain and not under dispute, Westminster Conservatives do not consider his behaviour to be inappropriate. We do and if elected in May Labour will take action to repair the broken culture at the heart of Westminster Council’s approach to planning.”
